Kai Kristiansen
The Model 121 lounge chair is widely considered one of Danish designer Kai Kristiansen's finest works from a long and celebrated career. The chair, later nicknamed the Paper Knife, was designed in 1955 for Danish producers Magnus Olesen in Durup, North Jutland. It was a huge commercial success through the 1950s - 60s and included sofas and ottomans in the same series. This example has a rich, lustrous rosewood frame that has been carefully restored and refinished by our team of experts in London. The new foam cushions are upholstered in cumin-yellow wool fabric by rose Uniacke. Other upholstery options are available by request.
Kai Kristiansen studied under Professor Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After he graduated he opened his own design studio and worked with several key producers at the time in Denmark. The Paper Knife Chair was one of the first designs that was put into production. He is known for his elegant and refined forms across a range of furniture styles and his impressive output over a career of more than 50 years.
