Ole Wanscher
Professor Ole Wanscher managed to strike a balance between historical evolution and forward looking modernism in his work. Words such as grace, poise and balance are often used to describe his best work. Amongst his career highlights was this sumptuous armchair with a horseshoe-shaped, sweeping round back, presented in 1958 at the annual Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition under the unassuming model number: J2883.
This example was executed in rosewood by Wanscher long-term collaborator friend and master-cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen at his Copenhagen workshop. A later version featured a leather-upholstered back whilst a third was made with a more simple construction, presumably with one eye on serial rather than cabinetmaker production.
