Model 36 Desk

Model 36 Desk

Severin Hansen’s Model 36 desk, designed in 1958 when he was just 22, is a true icon of Danish Modern design. Its timeless, contemporary look features signature 3-way mitred joints and tapering legs.

During its first exhibition, the future Queen Margrethe II fell in love with the desk, and her father, King Frederik, gifted it to her. To honor this, we’re re-launching these designs as the Margrethe Collection.

Severin Hansen

1936 - 2020

Severin Hansen Jr. was born in 1936 in Copenhagen, hailing from a family of highly-skilled and dedicated furniture makers. Shortly after leaving school, Hansen Jr. began to make a name for himself as a budding designer and in 1957 became chief designer at Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, aged just 21. Within a year, he had completed a range of tables that would confirm his place in the top tier of Danish Modern designers.

Hansen Jr engaged in multiple pursuits outside of furniture design, most notably in motor racing where he reached the pinnacle of competing in the Monte Carlos Rally of 1962, and by 1978 he had left the world of furniture making altogether. However, in less than 20 years Hansen Jr. had made his mark on the design world, leaving behind a canon of work that is still iconic today.
