Pragh Chair & Stool, 1948

Pragh Chair & Stool, 1948

The iconic Pragh chair was designed and produced in 1948 by Danish duo Arnold Madsen & Henry Schubell. The Pragh was a natural successor in style and form to their other masterpiece: the Clam Chair, designed in 1944 by Madsen. Both chairs were made by hand in small quantities at their small basement workshop on Gothersgade in central Copenhagen.

The Pragh Chair features a curved, sweeping wing back with sculptural, spear-like stained elm arms. The chair & matching stool have been reupholstered in premium Australian sheepskin. Three versions of the chair were originally made, each with different arm designs.
