Kai Kristiansen
Kai Kristiansen's iconic Model 42 dining chairs, produced by cabinetmaker Villy Schou Andersen in Denmark and designed in 1956. These examples have refinished rosewood frames with seat and back reupholstered in Sahco 'Moss' textured fabric. The back pad has a tilt function for added comfort. Larger sets and different upholstery options including COM are available by request.
Kai Kriatiansen was a significant member of the 3rd generation of Danish Modern designers who benefited from the explosion in popularity for Scandianvian furniture in the 1950s. Kristiansen studied under Kaare Klint at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen and shared his mentor's adherence to functionalism with refined classical influences. His dining chairs designed for Villy Schou in Vejen, Denmark were unabashedly forward looking and contemporary.
