Model 1748 Lounge Chair, 1942

Model 1748 Lounge Chair, 1942

This elegant lounge chair was produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in the late 1940s and designed by duo Peter Hvidt & Orla Molgaard-Nielsen who had recently started working together. Orla Molgaard-Nielsen was a renowned teacher at the School of Arts & Crafts in Copenhagen, where his students included Hans Wegner and Borge Mogensen. Peter Hvidt was the younger man in the partnership and together they created some of the most iconic chairs of the Danish Modern period, including the Boomerang chair for France & Son and the AX Chair for Fritz Hansen.

The beech legs have been walnut-stained and the chair has been completely refurbished with new foam, felt and webbing. It has been reupholstered in luxurious golden mohair velvet from Pierre Frey.
