Frits Henningsen

Lounge Chair, 1930s

Lounge Chair, 1930s

An elegant and graceful armchair designed and produced by master cabinetmaker Frits Henningsen c1930s. Henningsen was a key member of the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild and took part in many of their era-defining exhibitions throughout the 1930s-50s. Henningsen was known for his attention to detail and incredibly high standards, both as a designer and cabinetmaker of exquisite armchairs. He was a child of the 19th century both in terms of aesthetic styles and approach to craft, drawing heavily on English and French influences, but with a cleaner more purely Danish adherence to form. His approach to furniture making was resolutely hand-crafted and labour intensive. His pieces remain relevant, sought-after and highly collectible in the modern age.

This armchair has been reupholstered in pure cotton velvet from Rose Uniacke.
