An exquisite dressing table made from mahogany, produced by Bodafors, Sweden c1964. The Birgitta model has an adjustable mirror with brass fittings and 3 front drawers with original key. There is additional storage in the desk top accessed through a tambour door.
Carl Malmsten was the leading furniture designer in Sweden during the inter-war and post-war period. His career started in earnest in the 1920s, designed furniture and fittings for the Swedish Royal family, Stockholm Concert Hall and Swedish Institute in Rome. Malmsten strongly advocated for classical styles in furniture design and rejected the ideology of pure functionalism. After the 2nd World War his career had a highly successful 2nd act when he embraced high-quality factory production, working with Swedish producers including O.H. Sjogren and Bodafors. Some of his most important designs were created during this period.
