Egyptian Stool, 1957

Bernt Petersen, or simply architect Bernt as became known, was a stalwart of the 3rd wave of great danish furniture designers of the 29th century. His early career was spent collaborating with leading cabinetmaker Henrik Worts. One of his earliest designs was this elegant square stool with curved rails, inspired by the classic ancient Egyptian furniture type. Bernt managed to introduce Chinese influence also with his carefully sculpted horseshoe feet. This stool was designed for the Kunsthåndværkets Prisopgave competition in 1957 then presented at the Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition a year later. The frame is rosewood and the seat is woven cane in the French style. Literature: Grete Jalk [ed.]: “40 Years of Danish Furniture Design”, vol. 4, p. 74–75. / Bernt and Arkitektens forlag [ed.]: “Møbel & rum”, ill. p. 188–189.
