Karu Collection
The Karu collection was first produced by Gunnar Haimi for his company Haimi Oy in Finland in the 1940s and 50s.
Characterised by exaggerated, organic silhouettes with minimal detailing, our new editions capture the proportions, curved arms and subtle winged back of the Haimi originals - features that were typical of the post-war Nordic aesthetic.

Designer
Haimi
Gunnar Haimi founded his eponymous furniture company - Haimi Oy - in Finland in 1943, focussing on exceptionally well-upholstered furniture typical of the Finnish aesthetic established by Marta Blomstedt and others.
In the 1960s however, a distinctly modernist style was developed under the guidance of lead designer Yrjö Kukkapuro, with the introduction of materials like fibreglass, metal and leather.
Haimi would go on to achieve huge international acclaim and produce furniture by Marcel Breuer and Tobia Scarpa.
