Senior Upholsterer

Dagmar Design is looking for an experienced full-time Senior Upholsterer to join our workshop team in Bow, East London where we restore and reupholster a wide range of rare and interesting pieces from the golden age of Scandinavian furniture production (1940-70) alongside contemporary, bespoke pieces.

We are looking for a motivated and detail-orientated individual with minimum 5 years industry experience. Our focus is on armchairs, sofas and dining chairs as well as box cushions and ottomans with occasional bespoke work.

Working alongside our Operations Manager and our Workshop Manager, you'll be responsible for ensuring our high standards are maintained and deadlines are met. We work both individually and as a team depending on the pieces we're working on. You may be retying springs and reupholstering a vintage sofa one week, or helping finish a large set of dining chairs the next. The work is rich and varied and always of an exceptional standard.

Experience Required

  • 3-5 years of upholstery experience working on sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and ottomans
  • Ability to work with a range of fabrics and leathers
  • Competent use of a range of industrial sewing machines
  • Comfortable working undirected and as part of a team 

Core Responsibilities

  • Produce box cushions in fabric and leather 
  • Upholster from existing patterns and template from scratch, (measuring and cutting fabric accurately) 
  • Remove old fabric and prepare frames appropriately 
  • Hand-tie traditionally sprung seats 
  • Re-lash and re-spring seats depending on condition 
  • Replace old padding to replicate original profile and build of chair 
  • Order supplies and manage stock 
  • Lift chairs and be physically capable of manual upholstery work 

Nice to have

  • Experience with papercord weaving & caning (both flat rattan cane and French blind cane) 
  • Sheepskin upholstery experience
  • Leatherworking skills

Location & Salary

  • Full-time role based in East London 
  • 3 Month Probation Period 
  • Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 Gross Per Year (*depending on experience).
