Alfred Christensen
The artist and manufacturer
Co-founder of Slagelse Møbelværk and a prolific designer in his own right, Alfred Christensen played a pivotal role in the Danish furniture industry during the 1940s and 1950s.
A high point in Danish design
Combining his natural talent for art with an instinct for furniture production, Christensen founded the furniture manufacturing company Slagelse Møbelværk, alongside his brother Erik. Marking a high point in Danish designb, they would go on to produce furniture by renowned designers such as Ib Kofod-Larsen, Arne Vodder, Knud Fearch and the architects Nils & Eva Koppel.
While his work was frequently compared to contemporaries like Hans J. Wegner, Christensen's output as a designer was smaller and often produced in limited runs. His modest but mighty catalogue includes the famous Boomerang Chair and Model 185 Sofa.
Dagmar is proud to reissue the Model 185 Sofa as the Tissø Sofa, in collaboration with the Christensen estate.
