It made an instant impact when first presented at the Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen on the stand of producers Christensen & Larsen. This exceptionally rare example was executed in African Paduak wood, a notoriously hard timber with beautiful figuring when finished. The earliest examples of the Elizabeth chair exhibited were made in Padauk.

The chair gained the name ‘Elizabeth’ after Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain acquired a pair during a state visit to Denmark in 1958.

Literature: Grete Jalk, ’40 Years of Danish Furniture Design – The Copenhagen Cabinet-makers’ Guild Exhibitions’.
